Operation STAND over the Christmas holiday period had a positive effect on reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in Stalybridge town centre. Christmas 2009 saw less recorded alcohol related incidents and less arrests in Stalybridge town centre compared to 2008.
The council’s Patrollers, along with Police and PCSOs, ran a “meet and greet” for the public turning up for a night out in Stalybridge giving re-assurance and drink safe messages. The Police also made use of ‘Direction to Leave’ - a power which could lead to an individual barred from the town centre for 48 hours.
Cllr John Taylor, Executive Member responsible for Crime and Disorder said: “We want all of our town centres to be vibrant, safe and busy areas which attract people of all ages and we are keen that a few trouble makers do not ruin it for others.”
