Fuel poverty is an increasing problem for many vulnerable individuals with ever increasing fuel prices. Tameside Council is working with the Energy Saving Trust to provide the Affordable Warmth Access Referral Mechanism or AWARM scheme. This involves front line staff such as social workers who come into contact with vulnerable individuals in their homes being trained by members of the AWARM team so that they are aware of the referral process and can spot the tell tale signs that someone is in fuel poverty. Once the referral has been made the AWARM team will contact the individual to ascertain what their situation is and what help may be available for them such as government grants for heating and insulation, debt advice, benefits entitlement checks, energy saving advice and more.
If this sounds like something that would be useful to you or your team then get in touch with James Mallion on 0161 342 2246 or James Mallion to find out more about the scheme and book a training session. The informal sessions only take around 30 minutes. We can come to you or sessions can even be tagged on to the end of a team meeting.
