Tameside Strategic Partnership Many Partners, One Direction

It's official... St. Peter's Partnerships IS a Winner!

The charitable organisation based in St. Peter's ward of Ashton-under-Lyne has been selected as a winner of the prestigious title Best Practice in Community Regeneration Project 2009 in the British Urban Regeneration Association’s Awards.

Chief Executive Karen Butigan was very pleasantly surprised to receive notification from BURA of the Partnerships success and said: "Recognition by your peers is always welcome and gratifying but to receive acclaim at a national level from a body of the standing of BURA is incredible.

"I am thrilled with our success and although times are hard right now due to the recession, our organisation has enjoyed a fantastic 12 months and winning this title is the cherry on top".

St. Peter's Partnerships is a development trust that was set up to improve the quality of life of residents in St. Peter's ward and brings people together to promote a range of community initiatives aimed at tackling the long term difficulties of the area. It engages, supports, trains and develops local residents and local resident involvement has been hugely important in enabling it to achieve so much locally.

Chair of the Partnerships, Linda Fletcher is herself a local resident and she recognises how important the involvement of local people has been. "It has been the support of many ordinary local people like me that has allowed St. Peter's Partnerships to grow and to flourish. Local people know what the problems are in their area and often, how those problems can be solved.

"What the Partnership has done so successfully is to bring on board the local people with this knowledge and the skills to work together to really make a difference.

"This recognition once again reflects the professionalism with which our team of staff and volunteers go about their daily tasks, always showing care and enthusiasm for their neighbours.

"I am absolutely delighted for them, that BURA has recognised our commitment to community regeneration in this area and I am very proud to lead and be part of such an important, successful organisation."

The actual award presentation ceremony will not take place until early in the New Year.

Local ward councillor and Deputy Chair of the Partnership, Jack Davis, is equally excited by the award, he said, “Tameside council have been involved with the organisation since it began and would like to add its congratulations to everyone involved.

“St Peter’s Ward and the work of the partnership was an integral part of the council’s successful Beacon status application in the category 'Getting Closer to the community'.

“Our workforce, 70% of which live locally, reflects the local range of ethnicity within the ward and this has helped immensely to promote the benefits and value of our programmes to all local people.”
