What is the Purpose and what are the Goals of the Partnership?
- Improve housing choice, quality & affordability for all Tameside residents
- Develop a partnership framework to engage a housing providers & agencies
- Develop local solutions to local housing needs
What is the National Context?
- Sustainable Communities Plan – “Homes for All” – Housing Investment focussed on Affordable Housing. There is a funding emphasis on the south of England.
- Housing Bill – Increasing Housing Supply, again with an emphasis on affordability.
- Regionally and Sub-Regionally – Review of the Regional Housing Strategy and production of a sub-regional strategy for Greater Manchester following research into the Local Housing Markets.
- Less Government funding will be available for improving the quality of existing stock due to the emphasis on new supply in Government proposals.
What are the Partnership’s Priorities in Tameside?
- Delivering the new Housing Strategy.
- Delivering Decent Homes
- Securing funding to provide new affordable homes and improve current stock.
- Providing support to vulnerable members of the community to help them maintain appropriate accommodation.
Key projects the Partnership is currently working on
- Working with Registered Social Landlord (RSL) Partners to deliver new affordable housing and improve the quality of the existing stock, particularly in Hattersley, which has now been successfully transferred.
- Finalising the refreshed Supporting People Strategy.
- Further development of the Homeless Prevention Services and reductions in the use of temporary accommodation.
- Increasing the provision of support services to vulnerable people.
