Tameside Economic and Learning Partnership

What is the purpose and what are the goals of the Partnership?

The Partnership promotes the involvement of all communities in Tameside in the achievement of the ‘Prosperous Tameside’; and ‘Learning Tameside’ aims of the Sustainable Community Strategy. The Partnership enables joint working across agencies and communities so that shared goals and outcomes for Economic Development and Lifelong Learning can be achieved.

The Partnership contributes to the delivery and monitoring of the four key objectives of the Tameside Economic Master plan to:

• Increase Skills
• Increase Employment
• Increase Enterprise and
• Attract Investment

What is the National Context?

The work of the Partnership is influenced by national policies and priorities for economy and learning, for example improving basic skills and promoting enterprise in deprived communities. It provides a forum for discussion of national, regional and sub regional policies for example the “Sub National Review of Economic Development and regeneration” and provides a mechanism to feedback on their local implementation. The Partners also develop and promote new and innovative projects and ways of working.

The Partnership is guided by, and contributes to, regional and sub regional plans including the North West Regional Economic Strategy, Greater Manchester Economic Development Plan and other sub regional strategies such the Manchester City Strategy and City Region Development Programme and by spatial and regeneration strategies (for example the Regional Spatial Strategy). What are the Partnership's Priorities in Tameside?

These are outlined in detail in the Action Plans and work of the sub groups:

• Enterprise – Tameside Enterprise Strategy and Action Plan
• Employment – Tameside Employment Action Plan
• Skills – Tameside Adult Learning and Skills Action Plan
• Investment – steered by spatial documents such as the Unitary Development Plan and forthcoming Local Development Framework. Investment marketing actions are steered by the action plans of the M60 Invest Steering group.

What Projects / Tasks is the Partnership currently working towards and how?

• Delivering the new Economic Master plan for Tameside, 2008-13
• Acting as a forum for consultation on the new digital Tameside strategy
• Following the development of the new European Regional Development Fund framework
• Operating and supporting four sub groups on each area of activity for employment, skills, enterprise and the M60 Invest Steering group (being developed to promote investment).
• 14 – 19 strategy and action planning, involving as wide a range of partners as possible
• Promoting the extension of Metrolink to Droylsden and Ashton-under-Lyne
• Completing projects, including Droylsden Marina, St Petersfield and Ashton Moss and the Connecting with Communities in Need employment project
• Supporting other themed partnerships with discussion and promotion of key issues such as health inequalities
• Co-ordinating Tameside's response to global recession, including Future Jobs Fund
