Neighbourhood Priority Areas in Tameside

Tameside has been in receipt of Neighbourhood Renewal Funding (NRF) since 2001 and Safer Stronger Communities Funding (SSCF) since 2006. These resources have been targeted at disadvantaged areas to reduce inequalities between communities in Tameside and improve the quality of life for residents in deprived neighbourhoods by ensuring that the needs of local people are taken into account when planning and delivering services.

The seven priority neighbourhoods within Tameside are shown on the map below. They are:

  • Hattersley
  • Ashton
  • Smallshaw/Hurst
  • Denton South
  • Droylsden East
  • Newton
  • Ridgehill

Priority neighbourhoods have shown a reduction in inequalities. All areas have seen significant reductions in crime, educational attainment has improved, social housing is meeting the decency standard and satisfaction with areas as places to live has improved. There has been a good take up of health programmes and this has resulted in improved outcomes.

Tameside Council, Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust (PCT), Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Registered Social Landlords and other agencies are working together with local residents to reduce the inequalities between these areas and the rest of Tameside.

The Future

Tameside will receive approximately £12.5 million from the Working Neighbourhoods Fund over the next three years to further reduce inequalities in the Borough.

We will continue to work to reduce inequalities around health, education, crime and housing inequalities. However, the fund will primarily focus upon reducing worklessness amongst those people on working age benefits.

Neighbourhood management partnerships are being developed in all priority neighbourhoods in Tameside to take forward this area of work.

District Assemblies also engage with all residents across Tameside. There are eight District Assemblies which meet six times a year. They give people in Tameside the chance to find out what's going on in their area and to have their say.
