Commitment to Sustainable Use of Resources

The Tameside Strategic Partnership exists to deliver the vision of the Tameside Community Strategy.

Our Vision

Tameside is a good place to live, and we want to make it even better. We want it to be a place where people of all ages and backgrounds feel at home and able to get involved in the life of the community, where they can contribute to a prosperous local economy, feel safe and healthy, and take active responsibility for the environment in which they live.

The Challenge

To meet the social, economic and environmental needs of the people of Tameside and achieve our vision for the borough, the Partnership faces a major challenge. Within the context of finite resources and economic constraint, we must continue to improve people’s health and wellbeing, whilst adapting to the demands of a changing climate.

If we are to succeed in making Tameside an even better place, and eliminate the gaps in outcomes experienced by different community groups, we need to make the best possible use of the borough’s resources. We need to deliver services in a way that brings sustainable social, economic and environment improvement to local people, without compromising the quality of life of future generations.

Together we need to build a sustainable future for Tameside.

Our Commitment

Tameside Strategic Partnership has a history of successful joint action to maximise resources and transform lives within the borough, and our Local Area Agreement (LAA) includes several measures relating to the environment. We will build on existing partnership work and adopt a joint approach to sustainable use of resources. Together we will achieve even greater benefits for Tameside.

We are therefore committed to joint action to achieve our vision for Tameside in a sustainable way. We will work together to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, to conserve water, reduce air pollution, reduce waste and protect our landscape and green spaces. Together we will plan our response to the changing climate.

Making it Happen

To carry forward this commitment, we will establish a Sustainable Use of Resources Working Group for the Partnership, responsible for delivering Tameside’s Strategy and Action Plan for Sustainable Use of Resources. Members will be drawn from each Thematic Partnership and appropriate organisations. Measures relating to sustainable use of resources will be included within relevant Thematic Partnership Agreements, and monitored within quarterly performance reports. Progress will be reported to the Tameside Strategic Partnership Board each year, and issues relating to the LAA will be reported to the LAA Steering Group as required.
